Wyoming Five Star Event of the Week
One of the coolest wrestling events is taking place this week at Shoshoni High School – The 2nd Annual Clash at the Crossroads. 14 teams will be in attendance this weekend, making the trip to Fremont County for a chance to acquire the coolest trophy in Wyoming sports.
Like something from ancient sparta, a trojan-warrior styled helmet was given to the winner of each weight class in 2025 – this year, winners will receive a shield. Last year’s winners, who are attending again this weekend, are encouraged to travel with their helmets as a headdress representing their ‘Champion-Status.’ Next year, in 2027, the winners will receive a sword. So, in theory, a three-time winner would be fully decorated in titan’s attire.
“Tony Truempler (Shoshoni Head Coach) and Drew Peregoy (Junior High Coach) came up with the idea for Clash at the Crossroads. They wanted a tournament that would attract all of the 2A teams in the state. Since [Shoshoni] is a crossroads of Wyoming, it would make sense for everyone to attend,” said Shoshoni Athletic Director Matt Mason.

When Shoshoni built its brand-new high school a few years back, they had envisioned hosting more sporting events at their facilities. Head Coach Tony Truempler and former Athletic Director, Max Mills assembled the Class at the Crossroads to encourage local Wyoming wrestling teams to venture through Shoshoni.
Teams of every classification will be involved in this year’s tournament. The competitors are only separated by weight class, not school classification, similar to the famous Ron Thon tournament 24 miles away in Riverton. The toughest wrestlers against the toughest wrestlers.

Teams attending in 2026: Big Piney, Cokeville, Greybull/Riverside, Hulett, Lovell, Moorcroft, Rocky Mountain, Saratoga, Sundance, Thermopolis, Tongue River, Upton, and Wright.
Last year was an awesome finish for the home-town Shoshoni Wranglers, who posted four winners across boys and girls. In the girls division, twin sisters Peyton and Sawyer Arnhold won their respective classes – 105 and 110lbs, respectively. Brueklyn Truempler of Shoshoni won the 130lb division. On the boys side, Wiley Philleo won the 157lb division.
“The tourney is great for the [Shoshoni] community and Fremont County . . . It gives wrestling fans and community members the opportunity to watch some of the best wrestlers in the state. The tournament is growing, and we are excited for this weekend,” said Mason.

The 120 Girls division should be extremely competitive in 2026. Last year, Sawyer Arnhold of Shoshoni (110lb), Kyonna Gustafson of Hulett (115lb), and Lily Quintanilla (120lb) were all winners last year in their respective weight classes, competing in the 120lb class this year.
On the boys side, look to Ace Arnold of Saratoga (113lb) to repeat as champion this season. Last year he won the tournament’s 106lb division. Cannon Boren of Thermopolis (144lb) , and Zavier Clifford (150lb) of Big Piney will be in attendance again this year — they also won their respective weight classes last season.
