Ron Thon Champions

Every year, the best wrestlers in Wyoming converge for a two-day tournament at Riverton High School for a chance to win the Ron Thon Memorial crown. The difference between this tournament and others – classifications are disregarded.

If you have the heart to compete at “The Ron Thon,” you’ll be competing against the best in your weight class from the 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A divisions, making the a true pound-for-pound victor and offering official bragging rights over the entire state.

This year’s championship tournament was terrific, hosting 39 programs and hundreds of wrestlers at Riverton High School and Riverton Middle School. We saw a couple wrestlers win the elusive title for a second time – and even some who won it a fourth time – to etch their names in the Ron Thon record books.

Usually, defending-Ron-Thon champions have a certain swagger about them. If you’ve ever been to a wrestling tournament, sometimes it’s hard to gauge athletes based on the eye test. With many weight classes, and now the girls division growing more potent every day, you might not recognize a champion if they walked by.

However, if they’re sporting a shiny, gold, piece of hardware around their waist, you know not to mess with them. But that’s what is so cool about this tournament, and wrestling in general – there is no right way to win, other than toughness and an internal drive to dominate your opponent.

This year’s winners were just as amazing as ever. We put together a list of all this year’s champions, and tagged their school and weight class. Also mentioned below are the team champions, whose individual scores are tabulated to a cumulative total. Here are the team, and individual champions:
